Keeping a diary in English is one of the effective ways to improve our English writing ability. Compared with other forms of writing, it is shorter and takes less time. It can help us keep the habit of thinking in English. If we insist this practice, we'll learn how to express ourselves in English better and better.
In keeping a diary in English, we can run against a lot of difficulties .For example, we often have trouble finding proper words and phases to express ourselves. Also, there are many idiomatic ways of saying things in Chinese. And it is very hard for us to put them into English properly. Certainly, there are some other roadblocks we may come across in keeping a diary in English. So take it easy, the best way is to have a notebook and a Chinese-English dictionary within easy reach. Whenever something beats us, we can first put it down in our notebook and then look them up in our dictionary. We can also turn to our English teacher for help if necessary. By this way, we'll learn more.
In all, I believe that it is of great use to keep a diary in English for the development of our writing skills.
Country road, take me home

Sitting in the bus, carrying a bag of fruit, I felt so excited. The sun shined brightly. The bus ran quickly. Trees and rivers ran behind me. Things in the past came into my minds.
It is my mother that taught me how to pronounce. It is my father that helped me to learn to ride a bike. It is my parents that brought up me.
When I was a child, they were so stick with me. They stopped me from sleeping without finishing my homework. They sent me to a school far from home. So I had to get up early and walked to school all by myself when I was seven. They would rather take me to the farm than play outside. But I know they loved me so much. They tried their best to support me and encourage me.
Once I played late at school after class. It was dark outside I was so scared when walking on my way home. I got to the corner of the street I cried sadly even stopped walking. A light came nearer and nearer It was my father I lay on my father's back and stopped crying . Then I knew mum fell off her bike when hurried to pick up me. "I will never do that again." I told them.
How time flies! Now I am a senior student I have to leave them. Though I have been away from them for more than two years. I couldn't help ringing them. I have complained so much. They always listened to me carefully and encouraged me. In this way, I felt much closer to them. As time went by, I began to tell them how happy I was and good results in my study.
I was ill badly before final exam. I didn't tell them
at first. They were busy with their work. I suffered from the pain all by myself. Even though I felt a little sad, I thought my parents would be proud of me. I was not a child now.

The next day, I rang my parents. I asked them not to worry about me, but they still came to school this afternoon.

Chengyan from Class Six, Grade Seven of Xiangyu Shiyan Middle School
Hi! I am Chengyan. You can call me Christnia. I am 1.59 metres tall and I am slim. My face is a little fat. I have two big eyes. I don't wear glasses, but I study very hard.
I study in Class Six , Grade Seven. I love my class very much, because all the classmates are friendly.
Everyone that knows me says I am a kind--hearted girl. I often help my classmates with their homework. But my mother doesn't like me to do so because she thinks it may take me too much time. When she discourages me. I always say with a smile," The world needs warm hearts."
In the school, I spend most of my free time learning English. Because my father likes reading in his spare time, and he let me know the joys of reading, I became interested in reading step by step. Now I enjoy reading books because they can help me in many ways. I also like playing badminton. It's very interesting. It can also make me be stronger. However, I have a bad habit. I like watching TV very much. My parents hate it. I myself know it's bad for my eyes. But I still watch it every day.
I always sleep for eight hours every day and I have a good diet, so I'm very healthy. For breakfast, I always have some bread and a glass of milk. I eat rice with fish, vegetables, meat and soup for lunch. After lunch, I like eating some fruit such as apples, pears, bananas and so on. For dinner, I have noodles or porridge. I drink seven glasses of water a day, because they can keep me healthy.

The teacher is late

The bell for class was ringing and all the students have taken their seats , waiting for the teacher . Our Chinese teacher , Miss Liu , had told us before we were going to write a composition in class .
A minute passed , an another , but the teacher didn't come . The boys and the girls began to guess what had happed to her . Was she ill ? Or did she forget about the class at all ? Nobody could tell . Soon some students began to talk , and some took up other subjects . some boys even made noises .
About ten minutes later , the door opened and Miss Liu came at last , smiling . No apology was made . We felt a bit angry -- the teacher often told us never to be late for class and said it was bad manners to be late . She also said that if we happened to be late , we should make an apology either immediately or after class . but now she was late and kept the whole class waiting for such a long time and didn't even tell us the reason . It's unfair .
At this moment , Miss Liu picked up a piece of chalk and wrote "Teacher is late "on the blackboard and said that was the topic of our composition today .
All of us smiled and understood what the teacher meant.
My best friend

Lu Yu is my best friend. She is twelve years old. We 're the same age. She studies in Class Three, Grade Five. She is short and a little fat. She has a pair of small eyes. Maybe she isn't beautiful, but she studies hard. From Monday to Friday she has many classes. Her favorite subject is Chinese. She likes reading. After school, she always goes to the library to read.
On holidays, she likes going shopping and playing computer game with me. We have the same hobby. She does her homework in the evening. After dinner she often walks around the park near her family. On Saturdays and Sundays, she usually helps her mother do housework. When her mother is out, she can cook and wash clothes by herself. She is a good girl. （指导教师 王志祥）
A Tour

My parents and I went to Nanjing to visit my grandparents this National Day holiday. My father drove very fast. My mother read newspaper next to him. I sat behind them. I looked out of the window. There were many tall trees on the both sides of the road to Nanjing. I saw the wheat turned yellow and some farmers worked hard on the farms.
After three hours we arrived in Nanjing. When my grandparents saw me, they felt very happy. They cooked some delicious food. So I ate too much. After lunch, they went to a shopping center to buy a beautiful coat for me.
It was late. My father said, "We'll go back". I had to say goodbye to my grandparents.

A Kind and Brave Young Man

Long long ago, there was a queen. She was a witch（巫婆）. And she had a beautiful daughter. The princess（公主） was 16. There were many young men who wanted to marry the princess. So the queen had a way. She asked every young man to finish a task. The task was to look for a gemstone（宝石） in the sea. If the young man could not find it, the queen would kill（杀死） him. Many young men died.
When the princess was 18, there was a brave young man. He helped many animals like fish and birds. He went to the sea. He was thinking how could find the gemstone. The fish found the gemstone and gave it to the young man. So the young man finished the task.
But the queen wasn't happy. "The last task was to look f or a special apple. After it, you will marry my daughter." Says the queen. Then the birds found the special apple and gave it to the him. So the young man finished the queen's task again. "The last task was ......" Says the queen. "Stop!" The young man killed the witch. Then he married the princess.
怎样写好英语作文的文章开头

英语短文的写作一般来说应尽量做到开门见山，用简单明白的叙述引出文章的话题，使读者了解文章要谈论什么，一下于引起读者的兴趣。作文常见的开头形式大致有以下几种：
1.开门见山，揭示主题
文章一开头，就交待清楚文章的主题是什么。如“How I Spent My Vacation”（我怎样度假）的开头是： I spent my last vacation happily. 下面是题为“Honesty”（谈诚实）一文中的开头：
Honesty is one of the best virtues. An honest man is always trusted and respected. On the contrary, one who tells lies is regarded as a "liar"，and is looked upon by honest people.
2.交代人物、事情、时间或环境开头
在文章的开头，先把人物、事件和环境交待清楚。例如“A Trip to Jinshan”（去金山旅游）的开头：
The day before yesterday my class went on a bus trip to Jinshan. The bus ride there took three hours. The long trip made us very tired, but the sight of the beautiful sea refreshed us.
3.回忆性的开头
用回忆的方法来开头。例如“A Trip to the Taishan Mountain”（泰山游）的开头是：
I remember my first trip to the Taishan Mountain as if it were yesterday.
4.概括性的开头
即对要在文章中叙述的人或事先作一个概括性的介绍。如“The Happiness of Reading Books”（读书的快乐）的开头：
People often say that gold and silver are the most valuable things in the world. But I say that to read books is more valuable than anything else, because books give us knowledge and knowledge gives us power.
5.介绍环境式的开头
即开头利用自然景物或自然环境引出要介绍的事物。如“An Accident”（一场事故）的开头是：
It was a rainy and windy morning. The sky was gloomy, the temperature was low, and the street was nearly empty. I was on my way back to school. Suddenly, a speeding car came round the corner.
6.交待写作目的的开头。
在文章的一开头就交待写作目的，如通过文章要表扬谁，批评谁，或说明一个什么问题等。如“Pollution Control”（控制污染）的开头：
In this article I shall draw your attention to the subject of pollution control.
说说指导学生写英语小作文

学生到了四、五年级，已经掌握了不少的单词和句子，可以鼓励他们写英语小作文了。那么，如何指导学生写好英语小作文呢？我在平时做了以下几项工作：
一、注意积累话题，背诵课本范文。
小学英语的教材，几乎每个单元都是一个不同的话题。比如爱好、购物、买水果、颜色、动物等等，涉及的内容非常丰富。在平时的教学中，遇到典型的英语范文，我都要求学生进行背诵，注意知识的积累。
二、鼓励仿照范文，进行仿写、改写。
鼓励学生仿照范文的内容，自己进行英语小作文的仿写，哪怕只改动了几个句子和单词，都给予肯定和表扬。然后再要求学生对范文进行改写，鼓励他们增加不同的内容，充实自己的话题。从仿写到改写，这样一来，许多学生的作文开始体现自己的风格了。
三、实行“英语值日小班长制”的活动。
在平时的英语教学中，我觉得实行“英语值日小班长制”活动，是一个很好的帮助学生进行知识的积累方法。学生按照学号的顺序，担任“每日一个话题”的英语值日小班长。
教师可以提前一、两天告知学生准备的话题，或者由学生自己选择准备的话题。教师鼓励学生将自己值日汇报的内容写出来，可以请老师或者同学帮忙修改。这样，不但锻炼了学生的英语口头表达能力，也训练了他们的书写能力。关键是要长期坚持，才能达到良好的效果。
